A network founded by practitioners who saw that conservation only holds when communities have real alternatives.
How FAAFNET Began
From conservation projects to a community network
FAAFNET's story begins with conservation projects in the Mount Cameroon region in 1990.
Local populations were initially resistant to conservation efforts because concrete alternative income-generation programmes had not been established for forest-dependent communities.
After participating in training workshops and seminars on various aspects of Natural Resource Management, the founders established FAAFNET. The initial constituent meeting was convened in December 1997 and chaired by Mr. Lyonga William Mumbe.
Forestry, Agriculture, Animal and Fishery Network (FAAFNET) is a Non-Governmental Organisation which is not-for-profit making, founded in December 1997 and was legally recognized under Cameroon Law No. 90/053 of 19th December 1990 on Association. Its headquarters is in Buea, the Regional capital of South West, Cameroon.
FAAFNET was approved by the Ministry of Territorial Administration through Senior Divisional Officer's Order No. 560/G.37/D.14/Vol.T/T/OAPP of 4th August 1998 in Fako Division of the South West Region.

FAAFNET's mission is to promote the development of an economically and environmentally sound ecosystem and to improve on the livelihood of the population within the area of operation.
Our Vision
Actively contribute towards the management of natural resources as well as the social and economic development of communities in the South West Region and beyond to emergence by 2035.

What FAAFNET sets out to do
Raise ecological and environmental awareness and stimulate interest in Biodiversity Conservation, Green Entrepreneurship and Natural Resource Management activities.
Promote alternative income generating/wealth creation activities.
Stimulate and encourage women in recognition and acceptance of their responsibilities to their communities as partners in sustainable development.
Encourage capacity building and institutional strengthening through trainings, exchange visits, workshops and seminars.
Carry out environmental education and encourage the creation of school clubs, gardens and tree nurseries.
Carry out applied and problem-solving research.
Provide consultancy and advisory services.
Create awareness on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and seek partnership for the accomplishment of such goals.
Develop and implement participatory approaches to forest and wildlife management.
Promote ecotourism in the area of operation.
Carry out field-level demonstration trials.
Assist in providing infrastructure to communities.
